Those asking where are the good sea berths on the 470, can find the answer here. All 3 locations (aft cabin queen berth, main salon settee, and forward cabin pullman berth), can be made to function very well, with the addition of Lee Cloths and/or Lee Boards. These were one of the first additions I made to my 470. In the aft cabin, I chose Lee Boards.
They are 45" x 16", and are positioned approx. 11" forward of the aft end of the berth.
They have a "door-stop" rubber bumper, which rests against the aft cabin's "bedside night-stand drawer unit", when in the up position.
They are 1/2" marine plywood, with 6 - 7 coats of Petit Z-Spar Varnish. They utilize heavy duty hinges, thru-bolted (thru both the boards and the fiberglass berth structure beneath) with 1/4" - 20 stainless hardware.
Although you do need to maneuver the mattress over, or lift it up, to deploy or stow the lee boards, they aren't flipped up/down often, so having them strong and functional is what was paramount.
For the forward cabin and main salon, I made lee cloths. The Lee Cloths are heavy duty white canvas (36" x 27") secured at the bottom with 8 heavy snaps, and attached above with 4 brass hooks on some 1/4" double-braided line, allowing for quick deployment / stowage, and easy adjustability (if needed). Both lee cloths (and their attached lines/hooks) stow easily below the mattress / dinette cushions, with no troubles at all and are available in a flash, for rapid deployment.
In the forward cabin, not wanting to drill thru the deck for secure overhead attachment points, I chose to run a big vinyl-coated lifeline cable (about 5" below the cabin headliner), fore/aft, from bulkhead to bulkhead, near the inboard edge of the pullman berth.
It is attached with a snap hook on one end and a standard pelican hook at the other end, to stainless eye bolts run thru the bulkheads, using big washers to displace the loads. This serves as the attachment points for the 4 brass hooks/lines from the lee cloth.
In the main cabin, the port side dinette settee makes a nice sea berth.
I was able to bolt 3 stainless pad eyes, thru the edge of the cabin liner (immediately adjacent to the genoa track access panels), which serve as the attachment points for 3 of the 4 hooks/lines from the lee cloth. The 4th attachment point is a loop of 3/8" double-braided line, tied to upper end of the aft lower shroud chainplate tie-rod.
