Hatch Covers

Ron and Mary Blaul, Center of Effort, #121

When we bought Center of Effort we noticed that we already had crazing developing on several of the deck hatches. Our last Catalina was a 1996 42MkII and all the hatches crazed terribly. So I wanted to protect these somehow but resisted the idea of drilling into the deck for attachments for covers and also didn't want below decks to get darker.

Hatch Covers
So when we had our cockpit enclosure made, we asked the canvas guy to make some hatch covers out of the same screen material. We then had him sew the screen to a rim of canvas into which he put a bungee cord/drawstring.

These fit over each hatch perfectly.

You can still see out of the hatches when below. They let light in and stayed on in big winds this winter all without attachments on the deck.
