This is a picture of our davits with the dinghy in the up position. This is a West Marine RIB-310 and it is 8 feet off the water. Plenty of clearance to use the swim ladder in an emergency. I should mention this is west of the Golden Gate Bridge last September (2007). Another foggy morning on the way to Half Moon Bay (South of San Francisco). Eventually we ended up in zero visibility and had to use radar for 12 miles to get into the harbor, but that is another story.
