Bow Pulpit Bases

John MacDougall, Annie Laurie, #26

Here are some photos of my new (and greatly improved) bow pulpit bases.....

The original bases on my 470 (others may be different) were fairly lightweight, and were NOT up my offshore standards..... I'd experienced a break of the welds on 2 of the 4 bases.....and although I could've just had them repaired, I decided to make a change.....

I had a guy machine 4 new bases, from 1/4" thick 316 stainless, and fit the pulpit tubes down inside these new bases, and weld them securely..... Machined, welded, and highly polished.....all for $200......(a bargain, I thought!)

15 out of the 16 screws fit in their tapped holes (in the glassed-in backing plate) fine, one had to be drilled out....and I added nyloc nuts on the underside of most of them, just for good measure......

My bow pulpit is now very strong, secure, and rigid..... It is up to the task of handling a big guy like me leaning against it when in a heavy sea, etc....

Enjoy the photos....
